FOLLOWING YOUR HEART IS BETTER THAN THE HEAD!

When I was a young lady in college and adults shared their words of wisdom with me, one of the things I heard often was, “Follow Your Heart!” I wondered what that meant at the time. Was I supposed to move forward with only those things I wanted to do? Was I to listen only to “my heart” when it came to who I should love? How would I know if my heart was telling me something? Did it mean my heart spoke when I had strong emotional feelings about someone or something? Or did it mean to act on my impulses and not think things through? Maybe you’ve never been confused about what that term, “Follow Your Heart,” means. But I certainly didn’t have a clue, not until I grew older and wiser, when I had a more mature understanding of what I thought it meant. That’s right. What I thought it meant. For many years, I believed that to “Follow Your Heart” meant to rationalize, intellectualize and analyze a decision, and then validate it by seeing if my heart wanted to go along or “agreed with” the decision.

Now, how many times have you heard or even said to a good friend, “Follow Your Heart”, when she/he wasn’t sure which way to turn when making a decision, whether from an emotional place or an intellectual one? And did you really understand or know what that meant when you said it? Maybe you did. But I have fully come to learn that it’s not just an expression, but an actuality. The heart truly has a consciousness greater than that of the brain. Let me explain.

In the article “The Resonant Heart” (which you can find on the website HeartMath.org from the quarterly periodical Shift: At the Frontiers of Consciousness, Dec. 2004 – Feb. 2005), it states, “Far more than a simple pump, as was once believed, the heart is now recognized by scientists as a highly complex system with its own functional ‘brain.’ Research in the new discipline of neurocardiology shows that the heart is a sensory organ and a sophisticated center for receiving and processing information.” It also goes on to say, “The heart generates the body’s most powerful and most extensive rhythmic electromagnetic field. Compared to the electromagnetic field produced by the brain, the electrical component of the heart’s field is about 60 times greater in amplitude, and permeates every cell in the body.”

As it turns out, an electromagnetic field called the “aura” surrounds your body and comprises the consciousness of the mind and body. The heart is a part of that system. But it also has its own separate “aura” or vibrational energy that is extremely powerful. Since this aura enfolds belief systems, feelings, instincts, goals, desires, family genetic consciousness and all manner of other energy, for the heart to have its own aura stronger than that of the mind is validation enough to follow your heart. That is, following your heart means to follow a level of consciousness that is more powerful, and perhaps more sound, than the mind.

In reading “The Resonant Heart”, I realized that following my heart really is better than following my head, because the heart is clearly aware, in an astonishingly neutral way, of what my desires are and how to accomplish them. I say this as science has been measuring and proving the physical manifestations of how powerfully conscious the heart is, going beyond our spiritual understanding of this principle on ethereal levels. But taking it further, energetically, the scientific facts, as explained in this article validates how, when following my heart, I am listening to a divine aspect of myself internally, connected to the all of everything! It is widely known that the heart IS the 5th dimension, a level of consciousness that surpasses the mere physical urges and impulses of the body. Rather, the heart connects more to cosmic levels of higher dimensional awareness.

Therefore, to follow your heart means to follow what is deeply true for you. It means being in that absolute place where peaceful emotions are experienced, even if it defies the laws of logic and reason. Trust your heart. When you choose to listen, it will tell you what to do. It comes in the form of a quiet voice, a deeply calm internal resolve, a compelling desire, or a spark of illumination lighting the way. It really doesn’t matter how you receive the messages of your heart as long as you follow it; because when you do, you quiet the chatter of the mind and the back and forth of reason or logic. Following your heart can be better than following your head, particularly when your thoughts move round and round in indecision like a carousel going nowhere other than to create more confusion and emotional unrest. So, exercise another way, a real way of living your life honestly and truthfully for you. Simply Follow Your Heart toward your utmost desires!
