A divine design is at work in your life. You are a divine spiritual being who, before being born into this life, collaborated with Divine Source to receive the lessons of the soul you are here to experience.

So, I’m sure you’re asking three questions. One, “If I helped co-design the life I’m experiencing now, was I drunk during the process?” Two, “If this reality stems from a decision I made, what happened to free will and choice?” And three, “What happened to the law of attracting experiences based on what I believe and feel?” These are natural questions that I will attempt to answer. Be aware, however, that the answers may spur even more questions, delving deeper into the essence of self (which I encourage as a spiritual practice).

THE PROCESS OF DIVINE DESIGN

You can think of Divine Design the same way you design or create anything in life, as an image or visualization of something you desire to manifest. In the case of Divine Design, it is a visualization of the way you will learn specific soul lessons that you desired to learn before you came into a physical body.

For example, if the learning lesson is unconditional love, the Divine Design mapped out by you could be to experience abuse as a way to learn how to love yourself and others. It may be that your experience of going through abusive challenges helps build compassion for others who suffer in a similar way. From compassion may grow understanding for the abused, and the abuser. From understanding comes wisdom. And from wisdom, love may begin to form, until it turns into unconditional love for all involved. That unconditional love for others becomes unconditional love for self. And it expands out toward the entire world and all who inhabit the Earth.

Now, I know you’re thinking, “I as a spirit could never visualize being abused.” But the truth is you chose to be born into the family you have. And if your parents or another within the family circle is an abuser, you were aware of it and chose familial relations with that person anyway as a path to learn unconditional love. Once in a physical body, however, the desire of spirit becomes unconscious, allowing for your conscious awareness (formed by many other factors) to take shape. Of course, this truth brings us back to the first question you likely asked, “Was I drunk when designing this plan?”

THERE IS FREE WILL AND CHOICE

So, it may seem as if your free will is taken away, at least from a very conscious point of view; but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The learning lessons you have are something that you desire for purposes of ascending as a spiritual being. The way you designed to learn these lessons translates into the family you were born into, the country and community you entered into, and from there, a cluster of smaller lessons you will learn in order to master the overall larger desired learning lesson. However, once you are in a physical body infused with the belief systems of your family and environment, the feelings you learn to have in response to certain stimuli, the emotions you experience in response to innate primordial signals programmed into the body’s DNA, and your interpretation of all of this information for purposes of continuing your soul’s learning lessons, you make choices moment-by-moment that equate to free will. The spirit, You, is able to make choices based on the confluence of these various influences.

CHANGE HOW TO LEARN YOUR LESSONS

Even though you chose, in the beginning, certain elements in which to be born with a basic road map of how you will learn specific lessons, you can also choose to direct your life along a different course engaged in experiences that offer an opportunity for more pleasant ways of learning soul lessons. Sometimes, it is the actual encounter of the more challenging situations that act as spring boards to your deciding a different course of action to learn and master the lessons you desire to learn.

Take for example Eleanor Roosevelt. One of her soul lessons was unity: a connection to Divine Source, self, and all of mankind. Although born into a wealthy family, Eleanor’s father was an alcoholic and separated from the family, living in France. Her mother was a self-absorbed woman who only appreciated “beautiful people,” individuals of physically attractive appearance. Eleanor’s mother admired how beautiful she [herself] was, which created only greater disappointment in how Eleanor looked. Eleanor’s mother had little tolerance for her daughter’s “plain looks,” and therefore had little attention or affection for her. But Eleanor’s mom suffered from headaches. And when Eleanor rubbed her mother’s head to help ease the pain, Eleanor felt the love she received from her mother when she served her mother’s needs. From those moments, Eleanor made a decision at an age less than ten about how to be loved. This decision would serve her in her lesson about unity. When she served others, she felt loved, and therefore connected with them.

As her life progressed, due to particular circumstances including the death of both parents before she was ten (circumstances, too, that are often part of the Divine Design), Eleanor chose to attract experiences that set her on the course of freely learning and carrying out great service to the world. Serving others provided a way for her to stay in rhythm with the beat of everyday, ordinary people in their daily lives. In so doing, she established and mastered the lesson of unity through unconditional love. But, as a final note, Eleanor chose to be born into a very wealthy family with the privileges of high society and opportunities for world travel without concern for making a certain income to live. This wealth afforded her the position of serving others on a very grand scale.

A DIVINE DESIGN IS AT WORK IN YOUR LIFE

Regardless of how you collaborated with Divine Source to create the Divine Design of your life, you do have the option to make choices on Earth in a physical body. Just never mistake the fact, however, that whatever you came here to gain, learn, and master on a soul level will dictate, out of the thousands of choices you can make moment to moment, what will help most in accomplishing your desire as spirit. For this reason, no matter which paths you choose, ultimately, they all lead to the same destination, even if it means only mastering one lesson while letting others go by the wayside. And, without a doubt, whichever other lessons you may not receive now, you will collaborate in creating within a Divine Design to be learned on the next go round.
